Who are we?
Klima is an early-stage, science-driven start-up dedicated to reducing the climate impact of aviation. We develop an advanced software that helps airlines optimize flight trajectories both economically and climatically. Our work is built on close collaboration with key academic and industry partners, including airlines, manufacturers, airports, and air traffic management, to deliver practical and actionable solutions for a more sustainable aviation.
Passionate about aviation and IT? Eager to make a real impact on climate solutions? Join our dynamic, fast-paced team and help drive change!
Your mission
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing our mission by improving the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of our tools. You will contribute to the development of the entire software lifecycle, from the architecture and development to deployment, helping the aviation industry reduce its climate impact through optimized flight trajectories.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Implementing CI/CD pipelines for models developed by the science team
- Further developing our modelling suite to extend functionality and accuracy
- Assessing and improving computational efficiency
- Architecting scalable systems capable of handling growing datasets and workloads
- Deploying our systems on the cloud (e.g., OVH)
- Producing clear technical documentation
Required skills
We are looking for a candidate who combines strong modelling expertise with solid software engineering skills to further develop our models while maintaining high coding standards and robust software practices.
- Solid experience in software development
- Good command of Python and scientific packages (xarray, dask, numpy, scipy)
- Experience with code optimisation and performance tuning (profiling, vectorisation, parallelisation, and algorithmic optimisation)
- Knowledge of data orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, Prefect)
- Experience of implementing CI/CD pipelines for models developed by the science team
- Autonomy, agility, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Technical English proficiency
We welcome applications from skilled junior candidates who demonstrate scientific curiosity, motivation, and a strong desire to make a meaningful impact. Do not hesitate to apply even if you don’t meet all requirements.
Bonus skills
- A successful experience in software engineering in a scientific context
- Experience working with weather and climate data
- Experience in the aviation sector
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
Recruitment process
- Initial contact online
- Technical interview with our CTO and CPO on site
